Frequently Asked Questions

What is Universal Remote?
Universal Remote is an iPhone app that turns your phone into a complete TV remote control. It connects to your Smart TV over WiFi — no IR blaster, no Bluetooth dongle, and no extra hardware needed. Control Samsung, LG, Roku, Android TV, Apple TV, Fire TV, Vizio, Sony, Philips, Panasonic, and Hisense TVs with touchpad navigation, full keyboard input, app launcher, and media casting.
Which TV brands does Universal Remote support?
Universal Remote supports 11 TV brands and platforms: Samsung (Tizen), LG (webOS), Roku (all devices), Android TV & Google TV (Chromecast, NVIDIA Shield, Xiaomi Mi Box), Amazon Fire TV, Vizio (SmartCast), Sony (Bravia), Philips (Android TV & Saphi), Panasonic, Hisense (VIDAA, Android TV, Roku TV), and Apple TV.
How does the app connect to my TV?
Universal Remote connects to your Smart TV over your home WiFi network. Both your iPhone and TV need to be on the same WiFi network. The app automatically discovers TVs on your network — just tap to connect. Some TVs require a one-time PIN code or approval on the TV screen.
Do I need any extra hardware?
No. Universal Remote works entirely over WiFi. You don't need an IR blaster, Bluetooth adapter, or any additional hardware. Just your iPhone and a Smart TV connected to WiFi.
Is Universal Remote free?
Universal Remote offers a free tier with basic remote controls (power, volume, navigation) limited to 2 actions per day and 1 device. Premium unlocks unlimited actions, touchpad navigation, full keyboard, app launcher, media casting, Apple Watch companion, and support for up to 10 devices. Premium plans start at $3.99/week with a 3-day free trial.
How much does Universal Remote Premium cost?
Universal Remote Premium is available in four plans: Weekly at $3.99/week, Monthly at $9.99/month, Annual at $79.99/year ($6.66/month — best value, saves 85%), and Lifetime at $99.99 one-time payment. All subscription plans include a 3-day free trial.
Can I try it for free before subscribing?
Yes! All subscription plans include a 3-day free trial. Download the app, connect to your TV, and use all premium features for 3 days free. Cancel anytime during the trial and you won't be charged.
Does it work without internet?
Universal Remote requires a local WiFi network to communicate with your TV, but it does not require internet access for remote control functions. All commands are sent directly between your iPhone and TV over your local network. Your viewing data stays private.
Is my data private and secure?
Yes. Universal Remote communicates directly with your TV over your local WiFi network. We do not track your viewing habits, monitor what you watch, or sell any data. All remote commands stay on your local network and never pass through our servers.
Can I control multiple TVs?
Yes! Free users can pair 1 TV. Premium users can pair and control up to 10 TVs — switch between them from the app. This is perfect for controlling TVs in different rooms of your home.
Why can't the app find my TV?
Make sure your iPhone and TV are on the same WiFi network. Ensure your TV is powered on (not just in standby). Some routers have 'AP isolation' or 'client isolation' enabled which prevents devices from communicating — disable this in your router settings. Try restarting both your TV and router.
Does it work with soundbars?
Universal Remote is designed for Smart TVs. However, if your soundbar is connected to your TV via HDMI-CEC (ARC), volume commands sent to the TV will typically control the soundbar's volume automatically.
Can I use it on iPad?
Universal Remote is currently designed for iPhone. iPad support may be added in a future update. You can install the iPhone version on iPad using iOS compatibility mode.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Go to iPhone Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → Universal Remote → Cancel Subscription. You'll continue to have access until the end of your current billing period. Apple handles all subscription management.
How do I restore my purchase on a new device?
Open Universal Remote → Settings → Restore Purchases. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you used for the original purchase. Your subscription will be restored automatically.
