Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Universal Remote application ("App") and the website at universaltv.app ("Website"), provided by Universal Remote ("we," "us," or "our"). By downloading, installing, or using the App or Website, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App or Website.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the App, you represent that you are at least 13 years of age (or 16 in the European Economic Area) and have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms. If you are using the App on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

2. Description of Service

Universal Remote is a mobile application that enables users to control Smart TVs over a local WiFi network. The App provides remote control functionality including navigation, keyboard input, app launching, media casting, and power control for compatible Smart TVs. The App connects directly to your TV over your local network and does not stream or relay TV content.

3. Account and Registration

The App does not require account registration. An anonymous identifier is generated for subscription management purposes. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your Apple ID, which is used for subscription management through Apple's App Store.

4. Subscriptions and Payments

4.1 Free Tier

The App offers a free tier with limited functionality, including basic remote controls with a daily action limit. Free tier features may change at our discretion.

4.2 Premium Subscriptions

Premium features are available through auto-renewable subscriptions or a one-time lifetime purchase. Available subscription plans include:

  • Weekly subscription at $3.99 per week
  • Monthly subscription at $9.99 per month
  • Annual subscription at $79.99 per year
  • Lifetime access at $99.99 (one-time payment)

Prices are in US Dollars and may vary by region based on Apple's App Store pricing. All prices are inclusive of applicable taxes where required by law.

4.3 Free Trial

Subscription plans may include a free trial period of 3 days. If you do not cancel before the trial period expires, your subscription will automatically convert to a paid subscription and you will be charged. You may cancel during the trial period through your Apple ID subscription settings.

4.4 Auto-Renewal

Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple ID account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period at the then-current subscription price.

4.5 Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID subscription settings (iPhone Settings → Your Name → Subscriptions). Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. No partial refunds are provided for unused portions of a subscription period.

4.6 Refunds

All purchases are processed through Apple's App Store. Refund requests must be submitted directly to Apple through reportaproblem.apple.com. We do not have the ability to process refunds directly. Apple's refund policies apply.

4.7 Price Changes

We reserve the right to change subscription prices. Price changes for existing subscribers will take effect at the start of the next billing period following notice of the price change. Apple will notify you of any price changes and require your consent before the new price applies.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the App only for its intended purpose of controlling Smart TVs that you own or have permission to control. You agree not to:

  • Use the App to control devices without the owner's permission
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to derive the source code of the App
  • Modify, adapt, translate, or create derivative works based on the App
  • Remove, alter, or obscure any proprietary notices or labels on the App
  • Use the App in any manner that could interfere with, disrupt, or negatively affect the App or the networks connected to the App
  • Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws or regulations
  • Distribute, license, sell, resell, transfer, or otherwise make the App available to any third party
  • Use the App to transmit any viruses, malware, or other harmful code

6. Intellectual Property

The App, including all content, features, functionality, design, source code, and documentation, is owned by Universal Remote and is protected by international copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, and other intellectual property laws. Our trademarks may not be used in connection with any product or service without our prior written consent.

Third-party trademarks mentioned in the App or on the Website (including Samsung, LG, Roku, Google, Amazon, Apple, Vizio, Sony, Philips, Panasonic, Hisense, Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, and others) are the property of their respective owners. Universal Remote is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of these companies.

7. Compatibility and Availability

We strive to maintain compatibility with a wide range of Smart TVs, but we cannot guarantee that the App will work with every TV model, firmware version, or network configuration. TV manufacturers may update their devices in ways that affect compatibility. We will make reasonable efforts to maintain and update compatibility but cannot guarantee uninterrupted service.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP AND WEBSITE ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ACCURACY. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, SECURE, OR FREE OF VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS.

WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE COMPATIBLE WITH YOUR SPECIFIC TV MODEL OR NETWORK CONFIGURATION. COMPATIBILITY INFORMATION IS PROVIDED FOR GENERAL GUIDANCE AND DOES NOT CONSTITUTE A GUARANTEE.

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL UNIVERSAL TV REMOTE +, ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, OR AFFILIATES BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, RESULTING FROM:

  • YOUR ACCESS TO, USE OF, OR INABILITY TO ACCESS OR USE THE APP
  • ANY CONDUCT OR CONTENT OF ANY THIRD PARTY RELATED TO THE APP
  • UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS, USE, OR ALTERATION OF YOUR TRANSMISSIONS OR CONTENT
  • ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR TV, DEVICES, OR NETWORK ARISING FROM USE OF THE APP

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR YOUR USE OF THE APP SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR $100 USD, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Universal Remote and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorney's fees) arising out of or in any way connected with your access to or use of the App, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.

11. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States and the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall first be attempted to be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If negotiation fails, disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction.

12. Termination

We may terminate or suspend your access to the App immediately, without prior notice or liability, for any reason, including if you breach these Terms. Upon termination, your right to use the App will cease immediately. Provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination shall survive, including ownership, warranty disclaimers, indemnity, and limitations of liability.

13. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will provide notice of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, through in-app notification. Your continued use of the App after the effective date of any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

14. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary so that these Terms shall otherwise remain in full force and effect.

15. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and End User License Agreement, constitute the entire agreement between you and Universal Remote regarding the App and supersede all prior agreements, representations, and understandings.
